WISECP V5

Dear WISECP users and community,

A long time has passed since we first announced V5. In all those months we received a great many questions and did not communicate enough. I would like to tell you why, and where we stand today.

There were two ways forward

The first was to add new features on top of the existing version and refresh the interface. It would have been finished quickly and nobody would have objected. The second was to rebuild the system from its foundations. That meant reworking every layer, from the data structure to the admin panel, from the module infrastructure to the theme engine. We chose the second.

That is why it took so long

That choice meant a far longer development process than you expected, and we leaned on your patience throughout it. In return we now have a foundation we can keep building on for years. We never treated a screen as finished simply because it worked. For each one we asked where a piece of information belongs, how many steps a task takes and whether it genuinely makes you faster on a busy day.

What software is for

Not to hold hundreds of obscure features whose purpose is unclear. It should carry the features it does have to the person using it with simplicity, ease, intuition, reason and common sense, and it should make their day as light as it can. We built V5 with that vision. When you look at it, you will see that the sophistication, the modern approaches and the current trends have been handled in a way that is simple, easy and clear, rather than complex and hard to follow.

How the move to V5 will work

Every customer on a recurring (monthly) license will receive V5 at no extra cost. Lifetime license holders with an active update plan will be able to upgrade free of charge. The procedure is the same one you are used to.

You wrote much of the roadmap

The requests, the criticism and the observations about the way you work that you have sent us over the years became the starting point for a great many decisions in this release. We will keep listening.

Building on WISECP is far easier now

One of the areas that changed the most in this release is the developer side. A module can now open its own admin page, publish its own API endpoints and step into the flow of the system through ready hook points, without touching a single line of the core. Bringing the theme, module or add-on you have in mind to life takes far less effort than it used to.

Things will move faster from here

Because the foundation is solid, we will be able to move much faster on features, functionality, modules and themes. V5 is not an end point. It is the first, properly built step of a long road.
